500 School principals want Stanley

Two days left to go for that heartwarmer Stanley to make his way into your lives.

Cinemas have already started getting block booking enquiries as the principals of several schools across the country want their students to see Fox Star Movies Stanley Ka Dabba directed by Amole Gupte.Tanuja Chandra who saw a preview says, "Stanley Ka Dabba is just a lovely lovely lovely...beautiful film. You will be wondering whether to laugh or cry...'' and internationally renowned filmmakerMira Nair says, "I was deeply moved by the film.

It's a fantastically charming film, beautifully performed by Amole Gupte and the young boy Partho. It's a real side of the life that we don't see because children put up resilient, happy and shining faces. But behind those faces is a story like this often in the urban cities of India. Clearly Amole has a real pulse of children."

The secret in Stanley's Dabba

Amole Gupte, who was kicked about his new film Stanley Ka Dabba, has more than one reason to be anxious. Not only is this his only directorial venture, having to leave Taare Zameen Par half way, this film also launches his 10-year-old son Partho. Mumbai Mirror chats up with the little actor to find out more.

You seemed to have garnered a lot of attention for your role as Stanley. Are you nervous about your debut?
Yes, I am quite nervous

How did Stanley Ka Dabba happen?
When I was younger, dad was working on Taare Zameen Par. He had been conducting acting workshops for children, which I was interested in. So one day I asked dad if I too can come for one these workshops. I had lots of fun. From then onwards, I went to every workshop including the one happening at Holy Family school. I wasn't told about any movie though.
When did you get to know this was a workshop for a film?
One day, dad announced to everyone in the workshop that he was making a video. He didn't tell us it was a film. Only when we completed shooting, he called all of us and told us that it was a feature film.
How did you respond to that?
My heart started beating so fast. I was blown out of my mind. I got so scared. I asked him why he didn't tell us before. He did not want to affect our performances.
Do you feel like an actor?
Ummmm. Not exactly. My dad has made many short films with me. I thought this feature film was one of them.

How different are you from your character Stanley?

Actually, Stanley and I are not too different. For example (pauses)… Stanley makes up stories badha-chadha ke. If he gets a bruise, he makes up a whole story about how he got hurt. I also make up stories. When I don't do my homework, I say the dog ate it up.
Did you have to miss school to shoot Stanley Ka Dabba?
No way! Nothing has happened to affect my performance in school. I haven't missed a day. I also do my homework regularly.

Stanley Ka Dabba - Music Review

Read on the music review of Stanley Ka Dabba..:)

Life bahot simple hai
. If you are not yet humming this, you’ll soon be, that much I can tell you for sure. Shaan almost does a bum bum bole without exactly getting into that mood and pitch. A soft, innocent, lovely song that is good for you, whatever age you are.

Sukhwinder’s Dabba has some trying-to-do-a-Gulzar lyrics and while the lyricist Amole Gupte gets some on and off success, the overall effect of music, lyrics, and Sukhwinder’s singing is quite likeable. The innocence in Sukhi’s voice once again tells you how that man of hiiiiighhhhh notes can be humble with his voice too. Nice.

The next comes Nanhi si jaan, a light rock number sung by Shankar Mahadevan with a melody that sounds somewhat like that of the ’90s to me. Still, Shankar makes the song worthwhile to an extent. And then, after listening to the entire album, I expect that the song will find its place as the movie comes up. Hopefully.

The next song, Tere andar bhi kahin, is sung by Vishal Dadlani. The song is a light rock number again, but this one is quite different in its treatment and words take precedence over everything in this one. Somehow Vishal’s voice seems to be doing justice to the poetry in this one. Not too ‘musical,’ but it’s lovely and I expect the movie will make this one a favorite.

The next song, the only one in the album with a female voice, Jhoola Jhool by Hamsika Iyer is a short lullaby that sounds lovely if you’re patient enough. A small piece of good work by Hitesh.

The next small piece, Aditya rox, a version of tere andar bhi kahin, is not really very musical, but I liked it nonetheless

Still, the overall impact of the album is good. The music is fresh and Amole’s lyrics definitely speak for his movie only. The good part is that even though you can relate the music to the children’s movie, you can enjoy it anyway, something I’d consider a huge achievement for a debutant album composer in Bollywood.

Stanley Ka Dabba is a film that needs to be viewed by millions

Karan Johar Thursday said that Amole Gupte’s upcoming film ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’ took him back to his school days and made him remember one of his teachers who really troubled him.
Johar came to support and release the music of the film. He had seen the film that revolves around the life of school children a few months ago and felt very nostalgic.
‘This film makes you smile and takes you back to school. In fact one character in the film reminded me of my biology teacher, who traumatized me in my schooling years. When I saw this film, I actually got a huge reflection of that,’ the 38-year-old told reporters here.
‘I was a good student, a first bencher, so I used to sit right in front of her eyes and she scandalized me and traumatized me. So this film took me right back to those days. When I watched this film, I felt a feeling of nostalgia and a feeling of tremendous power of cinema,’ he added.
The film that has been written, produced and directed by Gupte will be distributed by Fox star Studios. It will be released May 13.
Johar, who launched the music of the film at Landmark, said: ‘I had the pleasure a couple of months ago to see this film. The film completely moved me. It is a film that I feel needed to be viewed by millions of people.
‘The way Amole has projected children and the symbolism of food in the film, it is great. At the end of the film you will get up with a huge lump in your throat which very few films that make you laugh do,’ said Johar.
